Because photography has little to do with the camera, and everything to do with what you choose to see.

And how you see it!

OH what a wonderful world...

So goes that beautiful song by Louis Armstrong, and I couldn’t agree more. It really is A Wonderful World, one just waiting to be seen and photographed.

And it’s all around you. It’s right where you are. Now.  Every Moment. And all you need to be able to see it is to lift the blinkers off your eyes, to throw away all your preconceptions (especially the one that goes “You need a great camera to make great pictures”), and to rediscover the freshness of vision with which a child looks at the world – with a sense of amazement and wonder.

And once you can begin to truly See, you can photograph it with a camera. Any camera.

Admit it. You want to learn how to, don’t you?

A brief look at the topics covered in Neville Bulsara’s  “What A Wonderful World!”

The Best Online Photography Workshop - Neville Bulsara's What A Wonderful World

The light outside is nothing; it’s the light  within you that matters.

Within you is the light of a thousand suns; it’s spelled AWARENESS!

Develop that, and then see the magic unfold.

They ask me "How is it that you can see these things?"

My reply is "How is it that you cannot?"

It’s painful. Buying  a camera (DSLR or otherwise) thinking it’ll enable you to get great photographs, only to realize that isn’t it what it takes.

Then you follow  it up with investing in bigger and “better” lenses, followed by attending those “Master Your Camera”, “Master  Exposure”, “Master Post-processing” and what-have-you-not workshops, only to realize again that it really didn’t do much for helping you make the evocative and meaningful photographs you always wanted to make; you still tend to mostly churn out mediocre photographs at best, photographs that lack depth and meaning.

You know you’re lacking something, and you don’t know what. And it’s Bloody Painful, isn’t it?

The problem? It’s never been about the camera, nor its controls, nor anything else. It’s about fixing what’s broken, fixing that which prevents you from seeing! It’s about identifying the many issues – and they’re all in your mind – that keep you from seeing, and systematically addressing them!

Module 1  – aptly titled “HOW IS IT THAT YOU CANNOT”  – takes you into a deep dive of just WHY you  see what you do, and DON’T see what you don’t. In doing that , it not only opens your eyes to aspects of your self and personality you didn’t know existed, but also begins to open your eyes to the world around you, while laying the groundwork for the learning modules that follow.

Color creates the light

While the average person takes color for granted, a photographer who is  attuned to – and has a deep understanding of – color, uses it much as a painter does.

In nature, light creates the color. A photographer well-versed with color,  uses it  to “create the light”.

Module 2 – titled “Color Creates The Light” – takes you on an awe-inspiring journey into the topics of color theory and symbolism, how to effectively see and utilize color, the pitfalls of color, and how to use color in your photography for maximum impact.

Photographer's Mindset - Be Water, My Friend

Form As Function

Form – as we teach it – is more than a shape (as defined in Architecture) and  just the three dimensional aspect of a shape (as defined in Art); rather, it is an umbrella term under which we group a number of visual elements, elements which our mind uses to make sense of the visual world around us.

It follows that if  we – even without realizing it – use the visual elements that constitute Form to make sense of the world, a studied and  deliberate use of these elements in a photograph  can not only take the viewer on a visual journey, but also help trigger very specific feelings and responses in the minds of those viewing the photograph.

Module 3- Form as Function – explores the characteristics of the various sub-elements that constitute Form: Line, Shape, Pattern, Texture, and Volume. By the end of it, you’ll realize that each of these perform very specific functions, that Form cannot be divorced from [its] function; FORM IS FUNCTION!

Matters of Perspective

Depth in both, life and a photograph ,  is a Matter Of Perspective.

The challenge is this: how do you convey a sense of depth along three-dimensions via a medium such as drawing, painting , or a photograph, mediums which are two-dimensional (have length and breadth, but no depth) in nature?

Perspective – in photography and art does not mean “point of view” but rather refers to a body of methods and techniques employed to create the illusion of depth on a two-dimensional surface.

Module 4 – Matters Of Perspective – explores the use of methods and techniques used by artists and photographers to create a sense of depth in their works.  Understanding the  principles behind them will also provide you with how to employ them in digital post-processing.

moments as stories, moments as pictures

There is an Instant. When the light is just right. When the seasons are just so. When nature paints an incredibly beautiful spectacle before you. When the mask slips off a person’s face, revealing their true essence. When a doting grandfather positions an umbrella just so to shield his grandfather from a light drizzle…

Or any other Instant, an instant when everything magically seems to come together, a confluence of  visual elements which together tell an entire story in a  single frame.

We, call them Moments.

Module 5 – Moments As Stories, Stories As Pictures – takes all that you’ll have learned so far  in this Online Photography Mastercourse , and adds ingredients that are Moments to the mix. You’ll learn about the various types of Moments, how they are classified, how to spot them, and how to nail The Decisive Moment – that which in a single frame, reveals the very essence of what the world plays out in front of you, just waiting for you to trap it for ever in the box that is your camera. Any camera.

Finding The order within chaos

It’s one thing to be able to see the world. Putting it together in a meaningful – and impactful – fashion in the photographic frame is a different ballgame altogether,  a ballgame called “Composition”.

We simply call it “Finding The Order Within Chaos”.

And no, there is no separate module which deals with it. Rather, it’s intrinsically and  organically dealt with in  all the modules that you’ll learn.

And no, it’s not all that “Rules of  Thirds” and blah-blah stuff everybody talks about but few can really explain…

Composition is just The Strongest Way Of Seeing!

Go ahead and admit it – you want to learn how to, don’t you???

"I did this photography workshop in 2012 and can’t recommend it enough. More than what I learned to see, I couldn’t believe what I had been missing out on seeing! It was literally like someone just took the blinkers off my eyes! It’s just amazing what I can do once I actually start “seeing” and stop thinking about the camera... So many shapes, patterns, texture, colors, and everyday moments I'd normally overlook were just waiting to be captured! It was pure delight. It was an incredibly enlightening and inspiring workshop, and Neville Bulsara is an amazing teacher!"

"I attended The Art Of Seeing Photography Workshop by Neville Bulsara and came back absolutely delighted! It taught me how to truly observe a scene so that I could bring out the best of it through my pictures. Within the space of a few hours , Neville taught me the importance of the elements that are required to make a great picture.. Neville actually teaches the ‘art of seeing’ … I have been pursuing photography for years now, and people often compliment me saying my pictures tell a story. What can I say? I owe each frame to my Guru – Neville Bulsara." . . .

Everything You Wanted To Know About The Course But Didn’t Know Whom To Ask

Finito. The End. We drew the curtains on it. The King is Dead

Let’s face it, that was a very small-group workshop that Neville had been conducting since 2012 on weekends at his residence. And it was a very successful workshop at that, considering that it was the only photography workshop in India that did had nothing to do with the camera, and rather had everything to do with the proverbial nut behind it.

Things have changed since then; seeing just how different the offerings of the Art Of Seeing Workshop (as compared to their ‘Master Your Camera / Master Photography’ Workshops) was, others jumped onto the proverbial gravy train. Little surprise then that  “Art Of Seeing” / “Includes The Art Of Seeing” catchwords are dime-a-dozen in Photography Workshops in India now; of course we can’t vouch for their content. Nevertheless, we pride ourselves on being pathbreakers in this field.

And of course then Covid-19 happened, so Neville  decided to draw the curtains on his Art Of Seeing Photography Workshop.

Only to come up with it’s successor.

Long Live The King!

Neville Bulsara’s What A Wonderful World is different from his earlier The Art Of Seeing in several ways, as summarized below:

  1. What A Wonderful World is conducted Online. This means that it’s now available to you in
whichever part of the world you may be  in. The Art Of Seeing, in comparison, could only be availed of by people residing in – or visiting – Mumbai. Put simply, we’re now Global.

  2. What A Wonderful World is a Course of  five online sessions spread over five weeks. In comparison, Neville’s Art Of Seeing was a one-day workshop spanning five hours. Considering the depth of the subject matter, we thought it better to stagger the delivery over five sessions, the better to let each learning module seep in.

  3. While the essence of both – What A Wonderful World & The Art Of Seeing  – is the same (that You Yourself are The Essence Of A Photograph), What A Wonderful World plunges far deeper into the psychological barriers that prevent one from Seeing than The Art Of Seeing Workshop did. Neville found that while the “underlying psychological barrier” (as he calls it) was common, it manifested itself in different ways in different people (including those who had attended the Art Of Seeing Workshop in the past. The result of this study led to a far more comprehensive Module 1, along with the formulation of specific methods and exercises to break through these barriers.

The other difference is that the other modules now boast a more comprehensive – and recent – batch of images that Neville uses during his presentation. And of course, if you’ve had the opportunity to ever see / hear Neville talk, you’ll know that no two of Neville’s talks are ever the same; he has this habit of throwing stuff in at the drop of a hat.

Put simply, Neville Bulsara’s What A Wonderful World IS Neville Bulsara’s Art Of Seeing. ON STEROIDS!

To answer the first two questions, it doesn’t. And yes, we are.

All the photographs on this page were made with a simple Panasonic DMC TZ25 point-and-shoot camera that Neville carries around everywhere (simply to prove that the camera really doesn’t matter). That’s a really old camera by any standards, one that doesn’t even shoot RAW!

As for Neville’s gear, he describes it aptly as “Eyes that see, A Mind that reflects and thinks, and a Heart that feels – the camera just records the impressions!”

The beauty of the What A Wonderful World Photography Masterclass Course is that it’s genre independent. No matter what your photographic interests are – the principles of visual awareness, visual design,  and composition are universal in their scope and application. Attending this photography course WILL help you make better pictures!

Compared to what?

  • The Camera? How much did that put you back by? And did it miraculously enable you to take great photographs?

  • The lenses you invested in? Only to find that they didn’t help you improve your vision either.

  • The many workshops you took, which claimed to make you master your camera / make you a great photographer? And what did that make you? Let me guess – a camera technician at best, adept at handling knobs and dials. Or, a theoretician discussing EXIF data and rule of thirds. Did that help you make great photographs that reflected your personal vision of the world around you?

Is the price on the higher side? Compared to WHAT???

Yes, it would be of help to you, acting both as a refresher of sorts, as well as introducing you to new things.

Go ahead and submit your Expression Of Interest, and we’ll revert with details.

You’ll find a “I’m game, how do I sign up?” button at the end of this page. Clicking on it will lead you to an Expression Of Interest form that you need to fill up.

Any – and every – thing is and can be a source of wonder, amazement, and material for great photographs.

All you need are eyes that see, a mind that reflects, and a heart that feels.

And a camera. Any camera.

Neville Bulsara’s What A Wonderful World

Great Photography is not about technique, nor is it about the camera, gear, lenses, rules, or anything else.

You either see, or you don’t see. The rest is purely academic.

Photography is simply a function of Seeing.

And Seeing is a function of  Being!
